D. Ryan Skinner, DO
Founder & Lead Mohs Surgeon | Dermatology & Mohs Surgery
Dr. D. Ryan Skinner is the founder of Skinner Dermatology & Mohs Surgery and one of the most experienced Mohs micrographic surgeons in East Tennessee. With nearly 20,000 Mohs surgery cases to his name — nearly all performed right here in Blount County — Dr. Skinner brings a rare level of subspecialty expertise to the community he calls home.
Dr. Skinner is dual board certified in dermatology and Mohs micrographic surgery, and he completed a fellowship in cutaneous oncology and reconstructive surgery. This combination of training means that when skin cancer is diagnosed, he is fully equipped to not only remove it with the highest precision, but to restore what was taken — whether through skin grafts, adjacent tissue transfers, or complex interpolation flaps.
Before founding Skinner Dermatology, Dr. Skinner spent nearly a decade serving the Blount County community through Blount Memorial Hospital, building a reputation for outstanding surgical outcomes and genuine, personable care. He has volunteered at free clinics, participated in medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic, and organized skin cancer awareness events throughout the region.
Dr. Skinner has been published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology and Pigment Cell & Melanoma, and has presented at international conferences including the Australian College of Cutaneous Oncology in Melbourne, Australia.

Kevin Carter Blanton, MMSc, PA-C
Physician Assistant | Medical & Surgical Dermatology
Kevin Blanton is a board-certified Physician Assistant with over two decades of dermatology experience, making him one of the most seasoned PA-Cs in the field in East Tennessee. His career spans infectious disease medicine, extensive outpatient dermatology, and dermatologic clinical research — bringing a breadth of medical knowledge that benefits every patient he sees.
Kevin began his career at the Phoebe Center for Infectious Diseases in Albany, Georgia, managing complex cases including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. That foundation in systemic medicine gave him a uniquely thorough approach to skin health — recognizing that many conditions affecting the skin have deeper internal origins, and that patients on immunosuppressive or high-risk medications require especially careful monitoring.
Before joining Skinner Dermatology, Kevin spent 17 years as a Physician Assistant at Dermatology Associates of Knoxville, where he also served as a sub-investigator on nearly 50 dermatologic clinical trials spanning psoriasis, acne, atopic dermatitis, actinic keratosis, and more. His research experience means he is often among the first in the region to understand emerging treatments and evidence-based approaches.
